What is the ATM / Mobile Banking Request Form?

Modernizing the Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) has been a key focus of the Department of Posts. Today, savings account holders no longer need to stand in long queues to withdraw cash or check balances. By submitting the official ATM Card / Mobile / Internet Banking Request Form, customers can activate an array of digital banking services.

This unified form enables POSB savers to apply for: 1. A New Post Office ATM / Debit Card (Rupay Card). 2. Internet Banking Services (e-banking access). 3. Mobile Banking Services (via the IPPB or India Post mobile app). 4. SMS Alert Services (real-time transaction notifications on your mobile).

The physical request form must be completed, signed, and submitted to the home branch post office where the savings account is maintained.

Post Office ATM Card Features & Withdrawal Limits

When you submit this request form, India Post issues a Rupay-branded debit card. Below are the cash limits and usage rules for the card:

  • Daily Cash Withdrawal Limit: The maximum cash you can withdraw in a single day is capped at ₹25,000.
  • Single Transaction Limit: The maximum cash you can withdraw in a single terminal transaction is ₹10,000.
  • Cash Deposit Limit: You can deposit cash at any Post Office ATM up to ₹25,000 per day (single transaction cap of ₹10,000).
  • Free Transactions at India Post ATMs: Cash withdrawals at India Post ATMs are completely free and unlimited.
  • Other Bank ATM Usage: At other commercial bank ATMs, you get 5 free transactions per month in non-metro areas, or 3 free transactions in metro cities. Subsequent transactions carry a fee of ₹21 + GST for financial transactions, and ₹8 + GST for non-financial transactions (balance inquiry, PIN change).

Internet & Mobile Banking Enablement

Activating mobile and internet banking transforms your postal savings account into a fully digital bank account:

  • Fund Transfers: Easily transfer funds between different Post Office Savings Accounts (Intra-POSB) or transfer money to other commercial banks via NEFT/RTGS.
  • Online Investment Management: Open, renew, or close Recurring Deposits (e-RD) and Time Deposits (e-TD) directly from the mobile app.
  • Balance & Mini-Statement Lookups: View your transaction history, check balance sheets, and download statements without needing to physically update your passbook.
  • Mobile Banking App: The official *India Post Mobile Banking* app is available on Android and iOS devices. You can activate it using your CIF ID, Account Number, DOB, and registered mobile number.

ATM Debit Card Fees & Charges

  • Card Issuance Fee: The initial ATM card is issued free of cost.
  • Annual Maintenance Fee: A nominal annual fee of ₹125 + GST is deducted from your savings account at the end of the year.
  • Card Replacement Fee: If your card is lost, stolen, or physically damaged, requesting a replacement card will cost ₹300 + GST.
  • PIN Replacement / Regenerate Fee: Requesting a duplicate physical PIN mailer from the branch costs ₹50 + GST. However, generating a green PIN online or via OTP at the ATM is free.
  • SMS Alert Charge: An annual SMS charge of ₹12 + GST is applicable for real-time transaction notifications.
Speed Post Dispatch Tracking: Once your ATM card request is processed, the physical debit card and welcome kit are dispatched and shipped to your registered address via Speed Post. You can track the exact transit progress and delivery milestones of your card package using our homepage India Post Tracking lookup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CIF ID on the ATM request form?

The CIF (Customer Information File) ID is a unique 9-digit number assigned to every post office depositor. It consolidates all your savings, RD, PPF, and SSA accounts under a single profile. The CIF ID is printed on the first page of your post office passbook.

How do I block a lost or stolen Post Office ATM card?

If your debit card is lost or stolen, you must block it immediately to prevent unauthorized transactions. You can call the official toll-free customer care helpline at 1800-266-6868 (available 24/7) or submit a written blocking request at your nearest post office branch.

Can joint account holders get separate ATM cards?

Separate ATM cards can be issued for Single accounts and Joint-A (Either or Survivor) accounts. For Joint-B (Jointly operated) accounts, ATM cards are not issued since all cash withdrawals require the joint physical signatures of all holders at the branch.

How do I generate the PIN for my new Post Office ATM card?

Once you receive your debit card, visit any India Post ATM. Insert your card and select 'Generate PIN/Green PIN'. Enter your registered mobile number; you will receive an OTP. Enter the OTP to set your personal 4-digit ATM PIN.

Is there any charge for activating Post Office Internet Banking?

No, activating Internet and Mobile banking services is completely free of charge. There are no registration or monthly usage fees. Only standard SMS alert charges (₹12 per year) and fund transfer charges (like NEFT out of post office) may apply.
