Every status you might see while tracking an India Post consignment, explained in plain English — tap any status for the full meaning, what happens next, and what you should do.
Booking
In Transit
- Item ReceivedArrived at an intermediate post office or sorting facility along the route.
- Item BaggedSorted and placed inside a dispatch mail bag headed for the next hub.
- Item DispatchedLeft the current office and is en route to the next hub or delivery office.
- Bag DispatchedThe whole mail bag carrying your item has been sent onward.
- Bag ReceivedThe mail bag reached the next sorting centre or delivery office.
- Arrival at Inward Office of ExchangeThe item reached an inward sorting/exchange office on its route.
- Consignment ReceivedThe consignment was received and scanned at a postal facility.
Delivery
- Received at Delivery OfficeYour parcel is at the final delivery post office serving the address.
- Out for DeliveryThe postman is carrying your article — expect it the same day.
- Item DeliveredSuccessfully handed to the addressee or an authorised person. Journey complete.
- Dispatched to BOSent to a Branch Office for last-mile delivery in a rural area.
Exceptions
- Delivery AttemptedDelivery failed once. The remark shows why — door locked, addressee absent, or address unclear.
- MisroutedThe item was accidentally sent to the wrong sorting hub or office.
- Unclaimed / RefusedThe addressee did not collect within the holding period, or refused to accept the item.
- Return to SenderCould not be delivered and is now being routed back to the origin address.
